About Shippey
My workshop is in Weston-super-Mare, North
Somerset, England.
I specialise in building Mandolins, Citterns and Bouzoukis; working
on a small
group of instruments at a time, I maintain
a consistently high standard of craftsmanship.
I started building instruments in 1982 and studied
Musical Instrument Technology at the London College of Furniture
(now London Guildhall University).
It was while I was a student that I started to play the Mandolin
and I decided to make instruments of the Mandolin family.
I went on to set up a workshop in Hackney, East London with luthier
Brian Lofthouse, before moving back to the south west of England,
where I shared a number of workshops with the late Rod Button,
who was a great luthier and friend.
